Sir David Attenborough makes rare outing just days before he celebrates his 100th birthday
NATIONAL treasure David Attenborough has been pictured in a rare outing just days before his 100th birthday.
The TV legend was seen making his way to his daughter Susan’s car in the capital just three days before he turns 100 years old.
Famously having never held a driver’s licence the much-loved naturalist, who seemed in good spirits, clambered into Susan’s car before the pair drove off together.
Sir David has spent nearly 65 years on the nation’s TVs, coming face-to-face with cannibals and spending time with a colony of gorillas during the span of his impressive career.
He previously told how he had no plans to slow down with his work after he turns 100 in just a few days time.
Sir David will mark the momentous birthday on May 8, with the BBC slated to broadcast several new shows over the week to mark the occasion.
A landmark new programme has already aired detailing the ins and outs of the making of one of Sir David’s biggest TV successes in celebration of his work and legacy.
Making Life on Earth, a TV segmant delving into how Attenborough created his groundbreaking wildlife blockbuster Life on Earth, was aired on Sunday.
It featured interviews with the national treasure and other members of the crew that helped him make the 1976 production – which would go on to be seen by 500 million people worldwide.
To mark Sir David’s 100th birthday a special ninety-minute programme honouring the broadcaster will be aired from the Albert Hall in London.
Presented by Kirsty Young, the special will be broadcast on Sir David’s birthday at 8:30pm.
Kirsty will be joined on stage by those who have worked with David and been inspired by his work over the years.
The programme will feature music from the landmark series produced by Sir David, including Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet.
Sir David has shown no hint of slowing down after his 100th birthday, having previously told how he is not considering retirement.
Just last year the BBC revealed that they wanted to make 99-year-old Sir David Attenborough their latest star on Tiktok.
He is the perfect frontman for the two minute videos on the social media site, according to the corporation’s director general Tim Davie.
He says Sir David – who turns 100 just a few days – is now an icon to young people who adore his programmes, including The Blue Planet and Planet Earth.
Segments of the programmes could be crunched down into bite-sized chunks to be consumed by millions of Gen Z viewers.
Sir David has always moved with the times.
He pioneered colour TV when he was BBC Two controller and last year – aged 98 -launched a virtual reality experience in London.
It allowed users to immerse themselves in a world of jaw dropping insects and plants.
