Young man, 20s, dies in hospital 3 days after horrific electric scrambler crash on busy Clare road as gardai issue plea

A YOUNG man, aged in his 20s, has sadly died in hospital three days after crashing an electric scrambler in Co Clare.
The horrific single-vehicle crash took place on the busy Bothar Na Luachra route in Shannon shortly after 11:30pm on Saturday night.
The man, who was driving the electric scrambler, was rushed from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of serious injuries on Saturday.
However, he sadly passed away from his injuries yesterday.
Gardai are today urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward and assist in their probe into the collision.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Gardai are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward.
“Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Shannon Garda Station on 061 365 900, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
Separately, an elderly woman has died after being struck by a lorry while walking in a busy area of north Belfast yesterday.
The horrific single-vehicle collision occurred in the Ardoyne Avenue area.
Police and emergency services raced to the scene of the horrific collision after the alarm was raised shortly after 2:30pm yesterday afternoon.
The female pedestrian, aged in her 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was closed to traffic for a period of time yesterday but has since re-opened.
Detective Inspector Stewart, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 801 of 24/03/26.”
Sinn Fein councillor Nichola Bradley expressed the community’s shock and sadness following the fatal crash.
She said: “The entire community is devastated by the tragic news that a woman has lost her life on Ardoyne Avenue.
“I want to express my thoughts and condolences to the loved ones who are left heartbroken and in deep despair.
“We will all rally around to support the family in what will be extremely difficult days ahead.”
