Former Scotland rugby international Stuart Hogg has been arrested again after allegedly breaching a non‑harassment order involving his ex‑wife, Gillian Smith. The former international previously admitted in November 2024 to a single charge of domestic abuse against Smith over a five‑year period.

The court heard that Hogg shouted and swore at his ex‑partner, monitored her movements, and sent messages that were described as alarming and distressing. He avoided a custodial sentence but was issued with a community payback order, including a year of supervision, and was banned from approaching or contacting Smith for five years.

Hogg was also handed a five‑year non‑harassment order and fined £600 for breaching bail conditions after contacting his ex‑wife.

The order allows him to contact his ex on matters relating only to their four children, according to the Scottish Sun, who first reported about his arrest.

The report claims Hogg is accused of breaching the order by using a co‑parenting app to discuss personal matters, despite being permitted to communicate with Smith only about issues relating to their children.

He was reportedly stopped by police at Manchester Airport last month while returning from France, where he now plays for Montpellier.

He was instructed to attend a police station in his hometown of Hawick, interviewed, and later released without charge.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 33‑year‑old man was arrested in the Hawick area on Thursday 12 February 2026 in connection with a report of a breach of a non‑harassment order. He was released without charge.”

Earlier this month, Hogg was formally stripped of his MBE after King Charles III ordered that the honour be ‘cancelled and annulled.’

The decision followed the former Scotland rugby captain’s guilty plea in November 2024 to a single charge of domestic abuse against his ex‑wife, Smith, spanning a five‑year period.

“The King has directed that the appointment of Stuart William Hogg to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 30 December 2023, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order,” a formal announcement read.

Hogg received the MBE in the 2024 New Year Honours list for services to rugby.
