A WOMAN has been found dead inside a property in a popular seaside town – as a man is arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police were scrambled to a property in Worthing, West Sussex on Thursday evening following a concern for welfare report just before 8pm.

Upon arrival to an address in Durrington, emergency services found a 65-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sussex Police said a 37-year-old man from Durrington was arrested on suspicion of murder and assaulting a police officer.

The force said that the victim and suspect were known to each other and inquiries are ongoing.

The man remains in custody at this time.

Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama, from the Major Crime Team, said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“We are in the early stages of a fast-moving investigation, and officers are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances.

“While we understand this incident will cause concern locally, we believe it to be isolated, with no threat to the wider community, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident”

She added there will be an increased police presence in the area while inquiries continue.
