Day four update: Drone fσσtage reveals a brυtal truth about what may have happened to Gary Piatek, 60, who went missing nearly two years ago, as police continue excavation work at a home on Broad Avenue in Evington

The victim at the heart of the investigation has now been named by police

New photographs have revealed the extent of the searches taking place in Evington’s Broad Avenue amid the ongoing murder investigation linked to a missing man.

Significant police activity is to remain in the area over the coming weeks after the force first arrived at the scene on Tuesday (February 10).

So far, 12 arrests have been made in connection with the murder of a man, now named as Gary Piatek. The 60-year-old had reportedly not been seen since April 2024.

Six men and two women remain in police custody, arrested on suspicion of murder. A ninth person, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, continues to be held by police.

Two men have been released under investigation today (Thursday, February 12) while enquiries continue. A woman was released from custody with no further action to be taken on Wednesday (February 11).

LeicestershireLive reporter Dylan Hayward was at the scene on Thursday as specialist searches were carried out with a heavy focus towards the rear of the property. Two men were pictured on the roof of a garden building, with work seemingly showing it being “dismantled”.

New images now show the intensity of the searches, with it looking as though the entire roof of the garden building has been torn off.

Officers have spent most of the afternoon focusing on the extended area at the back of the property. A police cordon remains in place which covers five homes in Broad Avenue.

Information relevant to the investigation which may assist police can be passed on by calling 101, quoting incident number 221 of February 9.
