The bodies of a man, aged 89 and a woman, 90, were found at their property in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, this morning as an investigation is launched.
The bodies of two pensioners have been discovered at their home.
Derbyshire Police confirmed the tragic news that a married couple – a man aged 89 and a woman aged 90 – were sadly found deceased in their house on Friday morning.
“Officers were called to reports that a couple had been found unconscious following a suspected gas leak at a house in The Spinney, Ilkeston, just after 10.10am today,” police confirmed.
“At the scene a married couple, a man, 89, and a woman, 90, were found but were pronounced dead by the ambulance service.
“Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service made the area safe, and after the property was ventilated, officers were able to carry out an initial review of the circumstances in which the couple died.

“A file is being prepared for the coroner and further enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the gas leak.”
Earlier this afternoon, a spokesperson for the fire service said: “Emergency services remain on the scene this afternoon at a property on The Spinney in Ilkeston following a 999 call about a potential gas leak at 10.10pm today.
“Firefighters and partner agencies are working to make the scene safe to allow an investigation into the cause of the incident to take place.
“While a possible gas leak is being considered, we can confirm there has been no explosion and the incident is believed to be isolated, with no wider risk to the local community.
At 3.20pm on Friday, a spokesperson for the fire service added: “Fire crews have now left the scene of a potential gas leak at a property in Ilkeston. The incident has been handed over to Derbyshire Constabulary.”
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that it was a suspected gas leak, but has assured nearby residents that there was no risk to the wider public.
