A 46-year-old woman was killed in Sudbury on Friday morning in a hit-and-run collision on Paris Street. Greater Sudbury police have now arrested and charged a suspect in connection with her death.
Police said they responded to the crash around 7 a.m. in the area of 1720 Paris St.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was struck in the northbound lane of Paris Street by a vehicle that fled the area before police were contacted,” police said in a news release Friday.

Died at the scene
“First responders attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the 46-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. Our deepest condolences are extended to her family and friends.”
Paris Street was closed for four hours on Friday morning at Indian Road and Maki Avenue while police continued the investigation.

Arrest made
In an update issued Saturday morning, police revealed that investigators reviewed CCTV footage and used automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) technology to identify the vehicle involved.
“Officers subsequently executed a search warrant at the registered owner’s residence, where the driver was identified,” police said in the update.
A 55-year-old man from Greater Sudbury was arrested at about 5:10 p.m. on Friday and charged with failure to stop after an accident causing death.
“His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process,” said police.
“The vehicle has been seized and will undergo forensic and mechanical examinations,” added Greater Sudbury Police Service spokesperson Sarah Kaelas in an email to CTV News.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on April 29 to answer to the charge.
Anyone with a dash camera who travelled on Paris Street between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Feb. 27 is asked to review their footage and contact police at 705‑675‑9171, ext. 2421, if they find “any relevant information.”
