A WOMAN has died following a car crash at a tunnel on the A3; she is the second person to die in the horror smash.
A man in his 20s died at the scene while the woman and four other young men were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The woman, in her 30s, died yesterday following the two-car crash on Tuesday just north of the Hindhead Tunnel in Surrey.
The four men, all in their 20s, are still fighting for their lives in hospital.
Surrey Police said that the woman’s family are being supported after the tragedy.
The force said that two Ford Fiestas – one black and one grey – were involved in the collision at 6.30pm.
On leaving the tunnel the black Fiesta moved across the central reservation and smashed into the grey one.
Police are looking to “understand why this happened” it added.
Any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage of the horror are urged to come forward.
The road was closed overnight in both directions as police investigated causing chaos for motorists.
This follows another fatal crash at the Hindhead Tunnel involving a 7-year-old girl and her mother.
Mary Michelle Devine, 43, and her daughter Theia both lost their lives in a crash on February 19.
