George Clarke has said his latest fundraising efforts were ‘nothing’ as the Strictly Come Dancing star revealed the results of his latest charity mission in honour of his beloved mum.

Fans may recall that while taking part in the BBC One dance contest last year, George revealed that his mum, Nicky, has been diagnosed with cancer, having already faced a tough health battle, as he dedicated a dance to her.

The YouTube star, who took part in Strictly alongside new professional dancer Alexis Warr, shared on the programme back in November: “When I was 16, I was about to leave for hockey practise with my dad and he said ‘oh I’ll just check on Mum one more time because she was feeling a bit ill.”

He went upstairs where he found his mum was having a seizure and she was later diagnosed with a brain inflammation called encephalitis. George then revealed his mum’s cancer diagnosis. “Unfortunately, recently my mum got diagnosed with cancer,” he shared. “Nobody deserves what she has gone through, but least of all her. It has just taken up so much of her life now.”

Two years ago, ran a marathon of Tough Mudders to raise money for Encephalitis International and over the weekend, he put on his running shoes once again as he took on the Tokyo Marathon in Japan.

Sharing a picture of himself with his medal after finishing the lengthy run, the TikTok favourite wrote on Instagram: “Found out what “running” in Japan is. Managed a 3:51:07 on my first marathon where I wasn’t drunk or getting electric shocked though so I’m happy!

“Would’ve been way more challenging, taken way longer and have been completed in a much less sexy vest without the help of @runna however! If you want to pretend you can run like me (at whatever distance/ level you please) download it today and when you do use my code: CLARKEY. Say a prayer for my legs.”

And his new Strictly pals were quick to respond with praise for his efforts. Alexis quipped: “Who’s that guy between your elbow on slide 3? I need his skin routine…. Also atta boi!!” Nikita Kuzmin said: “Epic! Well done George.” Lauren Oakley replied: “Congrats!!” Julian Caillon wrote: “Yes bro so good!! All those long runs on tour paid off.” Vicky Pattison shared: “Smashed it son. Well done!”

He later shared a photo of himself and his mum to his Instagram Story and said: “An of course I ran in aid of @encephalitisinternational. Any donations are so very appreciated but even just doing a bit of research on encephalitis is enough.” He then sweetly added: “Marathon is nothing compared to what she had had to go through.”
