The body of a woman was discovered at a property in Ballincollig, Cork this evening. Gardaí have sealed off the scene of what has been described as a ‘serious incident’.
Police and emergency services have locked down a residential street after the body of a woman was found.
The woman’s body was found at a residence in the Innishmore Park estate in the Cork suburb earlier today.
Local residents have been left reeling following the tragic and heartbreaking discovery. It’s believed the woman was aged in her 30s and was a familiar face in the Ballincollig community, reports Cork Beo.
Officers have cordoned off the location of what’s been characterised as a profoundly “serious incident.”
A Garda spokesperson confirmed the investigation remains at an early juncture. They stated: “An Garda Síochána are currently at the scene of a serious incident.
“We are not in a position to provide any further details at this early stage.”
Local Sinn Féin councillor, Joe Lynch, is a resident of Innishmore and has spent the evening with residents near the scene. He shared how the community has been left devastated by the “truly shocking” news.
He said: “In the first instance, my thoughts go out to the victim and their family. This is a truly shocking incident, and it has caused major upset in what is a close, tight-knit community.
“As a lifelong resident of the estate, I have spent the evening with friends and neighbours, and all I can say is that everyone here in Innishmore is shell-shocked. The Gardaí have a job to do now to bring the person responsible to justice, and we know they will do all they can to ensure that is done.”
