A YOUNG man from Co Sligo involved in a crash abroad has been left with injuries “not compatible with life”.

Aaron Mulligan, 30s, suffered a “severe brain injury” in a recent road traffic collision in Australia.

The Sligo town native had moved to Oz a number of years ago “to begin a new chapter”.

However, the Irishman is now in “critical” condition at the Royal Perth Hospital after the horror crash.

Friends of the Mulligan family explained that doctors are working to “keep him alive” until his mother can fly over from Ireland.

Mairead will now make an “emergency journey” through Doha in the Middle East to be with Aaron.

And in an attempt to relieve some stress amid the “incredibly difficult time” the heartbroken mum’s friends have launched a fundraiser.

Organisers Lauren, Mary, Brooklyn and Natasha heartbreakingly revealed: “We wanted to do something.”

The ladies have set up a GoFundMe page to help the family cover the “enormous and unexpected costs” they are facing in the wake of the crash.

Issuing the heartbreaking appeal the women said: “We have set up this GoFundMe in the hope of raising funds to support our dear friend Mairead and her family during an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time.”

They added: “Mairead and her family now urgently need to travel from Ireland to Australia, flying through Doha in the Middle East, to be by Aaron’s side.

“This emergency journey comes with enormous and unexpected costs — last-minute flights, accommodation in Australia, and other expenses while they remain there supporting Aaron.

“As Mairead’s friends, we wanted to do something to help ease the financial pressure on the family so they can focus on what truly matters — being with Aaron during this critical time.

“If you are able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean so much. Every contribution will help support Mairead and her family through this incredibly difficult time.”

Sligo Rovers, who Aaron supports, shared the tragic plea on their social media last night.

They said: “Help a mother be with her son for his final moments.

“Any donation you could offer would mean a lot to the Mulligan family.”

The fundraiser has already raised a whopping €78,044 since it was set up just one day ago.

The funds accumulated after over 2,200 people donated cash to help the family reach their son.

Several people even donated over €1,000 at once in a touching show of support for Aaron’s family.
