THIRD TRAGEDY
Grand-uncle of Tadgh Farrell named locally as victim of blaze at same Edenderry house where boy & grand-aunt killed
A MAN died in the early hours of this morning in a blaze at the same home where his grand-nephew and older sister were murdered last year.
The body of Christopher “Crunchie” Holt, 47, was discovered after emergency services extinguished the fire at 29 Castleview Park in Edenderry, Co Offaly which had broken out after 4am.

6It is the latest tragedy to hit the Holt family after little Tadgh Farrell, four, and Mary Holt, 60, were killed in a petrol bomb attack at the same property on December 6 last year.
It is suspected that there was no foul play in the latest fire.
However a full examination of the scene and a post-mortem are to take place.
The Irish Sun has learned the house had been disconnected from electricity since the petrol bomb last year.
One line of inquiry being investigated is that candles may have been the cause of the latest blaze in the upstairs of the property.
Christopher had been living mostly in the kitchen at the house in recent months with the rest of the house almost uninhabitable.
A source told The Irish Sun: “It appears that it is a tragic incident rather than anything more sinister.
“The family relative had been living there since the shocking attack last year and he had his own troubles.
“The whole thing is very sad and very hard for the family after what they have gone through.”
Independent Ireland Cllr Fergus McDonnell told how he knew Christopher from being a neighbour for many years.
He told The Irish Sun: “I lived within 100 yards of their house for up to 25 years. I would have met him in the shop.
“And he’d always say ‘how are you Fergus’, you know those things and that sort of brief conversation.
“But people are shocked for this to happen, especially after what had occurred before Christmas.”
He added: “My deepest sympathies to the family, brothers and sisters of the victim and the extended family.”
Paying tribute to her uncle on social media, Jessie Judge said: “Fly high with the angels.
“You will be missed so much, a heart of gold.
“I can’t believe it.”
Locals remembered Christopher as a “harmless soul”.
One woman who spoke to him in recent days said he was a “such a funny and nice man”.
In another tribute online, one man told how he had gone through a lot in recent years.
He added: “May your soul find the peace it needed Crunchie and may you be reunited with everyone you’ve lost.”
Christopher’s death comes as gardai continue the major probe into Tadgh and Mary’s murders.
Cops suspect the horrific attack was sparked by an assault on a Midlands gang associate in prison.
Hours later, a firebomb was thrown on top of Tadgh and Mary in the front room of the home in Castleview Park.
The victim of the prison attack remains the only suspect lifted in relation to the murder probe.
Cops believe he has “intimate knowledge” of which associates of the Midlands gang were involved and who sanctioned the attack.
The Irish Sun previously revealed how the Midlands OCG boss was jailed in January over a separate criminal damage offence.
As the investigation — led by gardai in Tullamore with support from the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation — continues, more arrests are expected.
Cops have identified a number of suspects, including a young teenager and a man in his 20s.
Tadgh’s father Aaron was sentenced in January to seven years over a €33,000 heroin seizure in 2024.
Holt — who had 59 previous convictions, including 15 for drugs — was not present for his own son’s funeral after being refused compassionate bail last December.
In a statement today, a garda spokesman said the body had been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination is due to take place at Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore.
They added: “The post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death, which will determine the course of any Garda investigation.
“The scene is currently preserved for forensic examination, the results of which will also assist in determining the course of any Garda investigation.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 932 7600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
