A final farewell to a ‘beloved husband and wonderful father’: Former Minister Sean Barrett’s family pay a HEARTBREAKING tribute, revealing his final, deeply emotional moments

TRIBUTES have poured in for former minister and “wonderful dad” Sean Barrett following his peaceful passing at the age of 82.

The former Fianna Fail minister from Killiney, who also served as Ceann Comhairle, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday.

Described as a “beloved husband and best friend”, he shared 58 years of marriage with his wife Sheila.

He was also remembered as a “wonderful dad” to his five children: Sarah, Jaci, Lynda, John, and Rob.

In a touching tribute, his family said: “Sean loved his family deeply and will be forever missed.”

They added: “Sean’s kindness, generosity and warmth touched everyone who knew him.”

And many have since paid tribute to the well-known man.

TD Kieran O’Donnell said: “My deepest sympathies to Sheila, Sarah and Family on the very sad passing of Sean.

“Sean was a highly respected colleague, who made a significant contribution over many decades to public life, as Ceann Comhairle, Minister, TD and Councillor.

“He was a very wise counsel who was generous with his time to new TDs and Senators. May he rest in Peace.”

TD John Paul O’Shea added: “My deepest sympathies to you all on the sad passing of Sean. May he rest in peace. John Paul.”

Many wrote about the good memories they had with Sean over the years.

One person said: “We are so sorry to hear of Sean’s passing what a really lovely man we used to go canvessing with him back in the day.

“May He Rest In Peace.”

Another said: “My deepest sympathy to Sheila and all the Barrett Family. I worked with Sean in the Royal Exchange in Cork many years ago.

“Always kind and helpful to me as a newcomer , May he rest in peace and rise in glory.”

Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Jane, and his sister Marie, Sean will be fondly remembered by his children, sons-in-law Daragh, Wewa (Maeliosa) and Dave, daughters-in-law Sophie and Dee.

He is also remembered by his 17 grandchildren, who he adored.

The former politicians funeral arrangements have also been confirmed.

He will repose at his home in Killiney on Thursday from 5pm to 7pm.

His Requiem Mass will take place on Friday at 12pm in the Church of the Assumption in Dalkey, followed by burial in Kilternan Cemetery.

The service will also be streamed online for those unable to attend.
