Kate Middleton spent time with two special guests at Royal Ascot: her mom, Carole Middleton, and sister-in-law, Alizée Thevenet.

On June 17, the Princess of Wales, 44, met up with her family members on the second day of the horse races at Ascot Racecourse in Ascot, Berkshire.

Cameras captured Princess Kate lighting up with a huge smile as she spoke to Carole, 71, and Alizée in the Royal Box.

The Princess of Wales is known to be close to her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who live near her, Prince William and their children in Windsor.

Alizée is married to Kate’s younger brother, James Middleton, and the couple also lives in the area.

At Ascot on Tuesday, the sisters-in-law greeted one another with an affectionate kiss on the cheek and smiled as they spoke to one another.

Retired entrepreneur Carole gave Kate a pure look of love as they hung out together in the Royal Box, which is the royal family’s usual spot for watching Ascot.

The British royals have supported the racetrack since Queen Anne founded it in 1711, and the Royal Ascot summer race meeting has officially been a Royal Week since 1911, meaning that members will step out to attend some days of the races.

Tuesday marked Princess Kate’s royal return to Ascot for the first time in three years after undergoing treatment for cancer and sharing that she was in remission.

The Princess of Wales skipped the social event in June 2024 during the period in which she was outside of the spotlight after announcing that March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer. Princess Kate then shared in January 2025 that she was in remission and gradually resumed some royal duties, but didn’t attend Royal Ascot at the last minute.

Minutes after her name was featured in a Royal Procession list for Royal Ascot in June 2025, it was announced that Princess Kate would not attend the event.

PEOPLE understood that an inaccurate carriage listing was issued by Ascot, and the updated version showed that Prince William would ride in the procession solo with King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia.

Carole and Alizée also attended Ascot that day, where Carole chatted with Prince William and King Charles in the Royal Box.

Carole and Alizée’s return to Ascot on Tuesday continued a girls’ day tradition, and they met up with Kate after she arrived in the Royal Procession with William, a spot of honor for the royal guests in attendance.

The Prince and Princess of Wales leaned on her family while she was undergoing treatment for cancer and during her recovery journey.

A family friend told PEOPLE, “This is about supporting her and her feeling supported. It is a joint effort. She doesn’t feel isolated at all.”
