STAFF at an Irish pub say they have been left “incredibly heartbroken” after one of their young workers passed away suddenly.

Greer Blake of Downpatrick, Co Down, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 11.

The young lad worked as a barman in The Northern Whig in the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast.

Colleagues were left devastated by his passing and took to Facebook to pay tribute to him.

They said: “We are incredibly heartbroken to share the passing of our much-loved friend and colleague, Blake.

“Since joining us, he became a true part of the furniture – always there, always willing to help, and someone who would do anything for anyone.

“He was known for his cheeky, mischievous nature, bringing smiles and laughter to those around him every day.

“His kindness, humour, and spirit made a lasting impact on all of us.

“We all love him so much. He will be missed terribly by his friends at the Whig, as well as by all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

“Rest in peace, Blake.”

Local club Russell Gaelic Union Downpatrick also took to social media to send their condolences to the family.

Posting on Facebook, they said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Blake Greer on his sudden and untimely passing.

“We extend our sympathy to parents Julie and Gerard and siblings Rhys and Chelsea.

“Our thoughts also with RGU committee member Stevie Dowd, Blake’s uncle at this very sad time.

“Go nDeanfaidh Día trócaire at a anam úasal.”

A death notice said: “Suddenly, dearly beloved son of Gerard and Julie, much loved brother of Rhys and Chelsea, loving boyfriend of Elizabeth, cherished grandson of Kathleen & Brendan Dowd and Maria and the late Bobby Greer, a dear nephew, cousin and good friend to many.”

Greer’s funeral will take place in Lissara Presbyterian Church in Crossgar, tomorrow at 11am.

Interment will take place afterwards in the nearby cemetery.

His family have asked that no flowers are given but said donations can be made to Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Locals mourning the loss said they are thinking of the family at this difficult time.

One person said: “Devastating, thoughts are with Rhys and family. Will always remember the laugh we had when we were younger. RIP.”

Another commented: “Condolences to his family. May you rest in peace Blake, it was a pleasure to call you my friend. You will be sorely missed.”

And a third put in: “Thoughts with Gerard and Julie and the rest of the family.

“Blake was a kind kid who I’d the pleasure to meet. RIP young man and look over all your devastated family.”

While a fourth added: “So very sorry to hear of Blake’s sudden and devastating passing.

“My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this heartbreaking time. Gone too soon.”

And a fifth penned: “Absolutely heartbreaking news thoughts and prayers with his family and friends … rest in peace.”
