A TWO-year-old child is in an induced coma in hospital after drinking a hazardous liquid, The Irish Sun can reveal.

Gardai launched a probe after the child, who remains in intensive care, was first brought to a Garda station in Co Kildare on Sunday night by a worried care giver.

At the station she was in a distressed state, was vomiting, bleeding and also had a temperature.

It was thought that she may have drunk from a bottle of bleach at a home and she was immediately transferred to hospital.

She was brought to Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital in Dublin where she remains in a critical condition.

One local resident told us: “This is a tragic case where a young child remains in a critical condition in hospital.

“People have been talking about the case and they are praying the child pulls through.

“The concern is that she drank something very hazardous that has caused her to be rushed to hospital.

“This is a very unusual case and not something you hear about every day.”

Following the child’s admission to hospital, gardai later received information that she may have consumed ammonia acid from a bottle in a tragic accident.

The substance was brought to the hospital for doctors to examine.

Medical staff are now trying to establish what the substance was.

CRITICAL CONDITION

The child underwent surgery on Monday and remains in a critical condition.

Gardai are waiting to receive reports from medical staff.

The Irish Sun has contacted gardai for a comment on the ongoing investigation.
