FUMING BBC Breakfast fans have made official complaints about Naga Munchetty’s “offensive treatment” of her former co-star Carol Kirkwood.
Carol, 63, who joined the broadcaster nearly 30 years ago, recently said some teary goodbyes on the Breakfast show after doing her final forecast.
The TV icon chatted with hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, and was also flanked by her co-stars Naga, Nina Warhurst, Peter Ruddick and John Watson.
At one point, Naga said: “I am just waiting for the countdown for you to go.”
Although those in the studio understood playful Naga’s sarcastic tone, some folk watching at home weren’t very happy and complained to the BBC about her “offensive treatment” of Carol.
In order for complaints to be published in the BBC website with the official number, there has to be more than 100 complaints.
At the time of airing, some viewers even suggested that Carol and Naga might have had an ongoing rivalry after spotting Naga was missing from the pre-recorded tributes to the star.
However, a TV insider told The Sun: “Naga and Carol have been very close personal friends for many years, as well as being very good colleagues as part of the BBC Breakfast Team.
“Everyone involved in Carol Kirkwood’s last programme for Breakfast on 1 April was there to pay tribute to Carol’s long service for the BBC, and they all did so fittingly.”
The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) ruled that the complaints were not upheld.
Carol announced in January that she would be stepping back from her role on BBC Breakfast.
She ended her time on air with a touching message for viewers and broke down in tears as she thanked them for “letting me be a part of your lives”.
It followed a difficult few months at BBC Breakfast, with a toxic feud threatening to rip apart the show.
Tension between presenters Naga and Charlie Stayt reached boiling point over opposing views behind the scenes.
A formal probe was launched into alleged bullying by Naga – with accusations against her ranging from laying into an intern for incorrectly spreading Marmite on her toast through to making an unwelcome, sexual remark to a female colleague.
Naga remains on air until the HR department concludes its investigation.
