Bonnie Tyler’s friend ‘praying to get better news’ as they share health update
Bonnie Tyler’s close friend shared an update after the singer suffered a cardiac arrest.
Bonnie Tyler’s friend has shared a health update on the singer, after she was rushed to hospital.
The 74-year-old was placed into an induced coma to aid her recovery after emergency intestinal surgery, it was revealed on May 8.
The singer, from Skewen, was first said to be recuperating in the hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal, before reports stated she had to be “resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest” when doctors attempted to wake her up from the coma.
The life-saving surgery came after a burst appendix, with doctors then said to be hoping to control the “serious infection” she is battling.
Her close friend has now spoken out about her health, sharing an update with Good Morning Britain presenter Amelia Beckett on Tuesday, May 12.
Liberto, who has been friends with Bonnie for four decades, with the star godmother to his daughter, said he had been checking in everyday since she was hospitalised.
He said: “I could not see her because she is intensive care and we are praying to get better news.
“The doctors are positive with the situation, but so far, it’s not that good.”
Liberto had earlier said: “She started feeling unwell during a concert in London and went to a doctor for tests, but they didn’t detect anything there.
“She decided to travel to the Algarve, where she began to feel severe abdominal pain. Two days later, she went to a private hospital, which urgently transferred her to the hospital in Faro because her appendix had burst and she needed emergency surgery.”
A spokesman for the Total Eclipse of the Heart singer had previously said: “We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please.
“We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”
Liberto had also said that Bonnie’s husband Robert Sullivan, who transported her to the private hospital before her emergency surgery, had been spending his days at her hospital bedside, only going home to sleep at night.
He added: “He’s very grateful to the doctors and nurses at the Faro hospital and believes that if Bonnie had stayed in the United Kingdom she would no longer be here.”
Bonnie was due to start a 30-date tour later this month, including a gig in Cardiff in December.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
