Piers Morgan‘s wife Celia has admitted she’s struggling to remain patient with her husband in his recovery following a hip replacement earlier this month.
The TV host, who formerly presented Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid, was taken into hospital to undergo hip surgery after suffering a fall in London.
He explained that he fractured the top of his femur after tripping on a small step inside a London hotel restaurant, with the injury so severe that it required a full hip replacement.
Piers, 60, is facing up to three months of restricted movement, with doctors advising against long-haul travel for at least 12 weeks as he recovers from surgery.
He penned to his social media following that he ‘tripped on a small step in a London hotel restaurant’, as he ‘blamed Donald Trump‘ for his New Year being ‘off to a cracking start’.
Giving fans an update on his long recovery, Celia, 50, took to ITV show This Morning to open up on how her patience was ‘already wearing thing’ after ‘painful’ days of him snapping at her.

Piers Morgan has revealed he has been rushed to hospital after breaking his hip in a painful fall
She revealed: ‘Let’s just say that the messages flooding in have predominantly been, “Never mind him, how are you doing?”
‘Yeah, so it’s been a long, painful few days… for Piers, too. But he’s… I mean, it’s reached a stage where he’s got slightly snappy now because he’s very impatient.’
Joking Piers’ attitude to healing was pushing her to become more like iconic psychological horror film character Kathy Bates, she added: ‘Of course, he can’t access the things he wants to and the snappier he gets with me, the more I turn into Kathy Bates from Misery.
‘I’ve started slightly moving the remote control out of reach and then leaving Love Island on TV. There are little ways that you can get your own back…
‘Anything to leave the house suddenly seems really appealing!’
Celia added of the injury: ‘A little stumble on the shallowest step that you could imagine. It’s amazing how the worst injuries are always the tiniest things, aren’t they?
‘He wasn’t drunk, and I want to make sure that everybody knows that. Because the messages coming in are just constant kind of, “long lunch, was it?”
‘And I was like, “No, it was a coffee!” But he didn’t see it [the step].
Celia spoke about Piers’ recovery on the ITV show
Piers explained that he fractured the neck of his femur after tripping on a small step inside a London hotel restaurant
‘Apparently, according to the surgeon, they said that if you just fall in that particular way on your side… anyway, he cracked his femur right across the neck and then had to have an emergency hip replacement.’
The TV presenter’s fall is said to have taken place inside a London hotel restaurant, with Morgan admitting he ‘fell like a sack of spuds’ after misjudging a small step.
Friends and fans flooded the comments section of the Instagram post, wishing him well and offering words of advice for his recovery.
Among them were Susanna’s fellow ITV host Lorraine Kelly, who penned: ‘You daft bugger – hope you are okay,’ while Amanda Holden joked it put Piers’ wife Celia ‘off the hook for a few weeks’.
This Morning contributor and radio host Nick Ferrari added: ‘Huge sympathy buddy. You’re no longer just “breaking” big scoops!’
While Eamonn Holmes penned: ‘Well , sincere sympathy my friend but I am the expert in this field… if you want advice or a visitor. Lucozade and Grapes!’
After posting news about the fall, Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid reached out to Piers live on the ITV breakfast show on Monday after he ‘rebuffed’ her offer of a hospital visit.
Susanna went on to discuss Piers’ fall with co-stars Ed Balls and Kate Garraway during a segment about Blue Monday, which she called ‘the most miserable day of the year’.

Piers presented Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna until he left in 2021
Speaking live on GMB, she said: ‘Not a great morning for our good friend Piers Morgan, although I have to say, he is recovering well in hospital.
‘He has a new hip, so good luck with your recovery. I think he’s going to be in the hospital for a few days as he recovers.
‘There was a restaurant involved and a stumble, and a whole new hip. So get well soon, Piers. He’ll be out soon, and we hope he gets better quickly.’
Revealing she offered to visit Piers in hospital, she joked: ‘I did offer to turn up with grapes, but he says he has enough to open a vineyard, so I was rebuffed.’
Susanna and Piers presented Good Morning Britain together until his departure in 2021, after controversial remarks he made about Meghan Markle saw him walk out of the ITV programme’s studio.
Since then, Piers has gone on to present his own series, Piers Morgan Uncensored, which was launched on Talk TV and now streams on YouTube.
