Grace Lynch, 16, was struck by a scrambler bike on Ratoath Road in Finglas, Dublin on Sunday afternoon and tragically died of her injuries last night
A grief-stricken mother watched her teenage daughter take her last breath after being struck by a scrambler bike while crossing the road on Sunday.
At around 2.20pm yesterday, Gardai and emergency services were called to Ratoath Road in Finglas, Dublin, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a bike.
A scrambler bike, carrying an adult male and a teenage boy, reportedly smashed into 16-year-old Grace Lynch as she was crossing the road. While all three were injured in the incident, Grace was raced to hospital with catastrophic injuries, reports Irish Mirror.
Tragically, she was declared dead just hours later at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown. A man who is suspected of driving the scrambler bike was arrested by gardai.
Now, Grace’s heartbroken mother Siobhan has spoken out about her devastation and paid tribute to her ‘beautiful’ daughter. “We are devastated. I want justice,” she said. “She was 16. She was a beautiful girl – funny, a great daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a niece a cousin, a friend. My baby girl.”
“Myself and her father Martin, sisters Shauna and Brooke and baby brother Jude will never forget that beautiful smile and the way she had of just being Grace… Watching my baby take her last breath was the most heartbreaking thing any parent should watch. We want justice for our Grace.
“She didn’t need to die. She was crossing the road. I’m not going to let by baby die in vain. I need some sort of help to get these bikes off the road,” she added.
As emergency services rushed to the scene, paramedics began immediately working on the young girl, who was critical on the roadside. She was taken to Connolly Hospital, where she subsequently was declared dead on Sunday evening.
An adult male and teenage boy who were on the scrambler were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. In a statement on Sunday evening, gardai said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the Ratoath Road, Finglas, Dublin 11, this afternoon, Sunday 25th January 2026.
