Former colleagues of Carol Kirkwood have shared what she is “really like” when the cameras stop rolling, now that she has quit BBC Breakfast. The weather presenter, who has been a part of the corporation for more than 20 years, broke the news during Tuesday’s (January 27) broadcast, informing viewers alongside presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay.
Now, some of her former co-stars are opening up on what she was actually like behind the scenes. Dan Walker took to Instagram to reminisce on his time working with her, as he described her as the “same lovely person you see on the telly”. He shared a number of snaps of them together, laughing and joking on the iconic red sofa as he declared that her departure was “the end of an era”. He lovingly wrote: “CAROL TO LEAVE BREAKFAST [shocked emoji] End of an era! I still get asked what Carol is like in real life and she is just the same lovely person you see on the telly. She was always so kind, generous and funny on and off screen and she will be hugely missed on @bbcbreakfast.”

Dan added: “Throw that alarm clock away Carol. Long may she reign.”
Presenter Jon Kay had similar sentiments, as he also shared an Instagram post dedicated to his colleague. He penned: “Oh Carol! We love you so much. As warm and sunny, kind and funny off-screen as our viewers see on their TVs every morning.
“Thank you for being the best of colleagues and the dearest of friends. You are an absolute joy to work with. And, much as we will all miss you, we’re thrilled that you and Steve have found such happiness and that you have so many fun-filled plans for the future.
“For twenty-something years, you’ve set the tone for all of us on BBC Breakfast – and you will always be part of our family. Thank you for everything xxxx.”
Carol shared that she had “loved every minute” of her tenure with the broadcaster. In her official statement, she reflected: “This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but it feels like the right moment to step away. I’ll carry with me the most wonderful memories
She continued: “My job is something I’ve never taken for granted and I’ve loved every minute. From early starts and all manner of forecasts, I’ve shared it with incredible colleagues at BBC Breakfast, BBC Weather and programmes across the BBC. I’d like to thank them for their support and friendship which has meant the world.”
Carol will continue working on the BBC show until April.
