“It’s time for me to do this”: Fox News’ Bret Baier has unexpectedly announced that he will be stepping away from Special Report for an extended period due to a family-related reason, while also issuing a heartfelt ‘call to action’ to his millions of viewers

FOX News’ Bret Baier has teased an upcoming two-week absence from Special Report.

Baier, the host of Fox News‘ nightly political news program, went on Instagram over the weekend to share the news of his impending leave with his more than 700,000 followers.

In his message to his viewers, Baier, 55, also extended a call to action to his followers as he preps for a big summer vacation with his family.

The prominent political reporter said the well-deserved time off comes as his eldest son had just graduated from high school and his younger son is getting ready to move on to 10th grade.

“We deserved a big family vacation,” Baier said in the near two-minute video shared on Sunday.

“So, potentially, it’s the longest vacation I’ve taken off Special Report. Two weeks. We’ll see.

“Last year, I got yanked off to anchor as the world was kind of imploding, but knock on wood, I’m going to take some vacation time.”

Baier reassured his viewers that his nightly 6pm news program will continue business as usual with anchor John Roberts filling in for the first week.

A host of other Fox News anchors will fill in during the second week of Baier’s absence until his return, he said.

“I do have a call to action for you all here on Instagram,” Baier asked his followers.

“One, what’s a summer reading? A book that you think is fun to read? I’ve got two weeks.

“This is other than Case for America, which I’m sure you’re reading,” he added, referring to his new book, which was released in early May.

“What do you recommend?” Baier asked.

“Two, I’m trying to make a summer playlist.

“I’ve got some songs that are on my list. I’m going to put it out and do you have a song or two that you think should be on the list? Let me know.

“Three, how do you relax on vacation? Fully unplug. I’m going to put the phone down, I promise, but looking for that for two weeks.

“So, we’ll see if I make it the full two weeks.

“All I know is that Special Report has you covered with all the news you need and until I get back, keep it fair, balanced, and not afraid.”
