COPS have launched a murder probe after a man in his 20s was run over at a petrol station and killed.

Emergency services scrambled to an Asda Express garage yesterday after reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

They found a young man with serious injuries on the forecourt in Seaham, County Durham, and he tragically died at the scene.

Durham Police are treating it as a murder investigation, and have arrested three people.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Stockton Road, Seaham, at around 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday, January 15).

“A vehicle is believed to have collided with a pedestrian on the New Seaham Service Station forecourt, where a man in his 20s sustained serious injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A murder investigation is now underway, and three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The section of the B1285 between the Mallard pub and the petrol station is likely to remain closed for some time while inquiries are carried out.

“Anybody with any information relating to the incident, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage in the area around the same time, is asked to contact Durham Police via 101, quoting incident number 281 of January 15.”

Photos from the scene show the Asda Express window has been smashed.

Police cordoned off the in both directions as forensics begin their investigations.

Nine police vehicles and a fire engine were seen at the garage and the road is expected to stay shut for some time, reports ChronicleLive.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We attended an incident at the service station on Stockton Road in Seaham just after 16.50h today (15 Jan).

“We dispatched a paramedic ambulance, a doctor in a rapid response car, a clinical team leader, a specialist paramedic and one of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) crews following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a car.”
