Bruce Moat and Grant Hardie couldn’t hide their emotions after missing out on gold in the men’s team curling

Both Bruce Mouat and Grant Hardie showed their heartbreak when responding to their loss in the gold medal match in the Winter Olympics men’s team Curling final.
Team GB had to settle for silver as they fell to a 6-9 loss to Canada, in what was an agonisingly close battle on Saturday evening. The difference came in a crucial ninth end, when Canada registered a score of three to leave GB needing a score of two to take it to an extra sudden death end, but failed to do so with the final stone of the match.
Speaking to the BBC in the moments after the match, both broke down in tears live on camera. Interviewer JJ Chalmers moving on from one to the other to give them a chance to compose themselves.
“I’m a bit in shock,” Mouat said through tears. “We felt like we were the better team there. I don’t know what to say.
“Regardless of the result, the incredible thing we will take away is the amount of people who have come out to support us and have messaged us from back home.
“The boys and I love our sport, we want people to come and join our sport.

“If we can take anything away from this week as well as the silver medal, it’s being able to inspire people to hopefully want to participate. That is an achievement in itself.”
Hardie added: “[Our friendship] is why we wanted to win it for each other. The pain from four years ago was that much, we thought we’d give it another go, had the chance, but unfortunately we haven’t got there again.”
Giving his instant reaction to the result on BBC Two after the game, commentator Steve Cram said: “GB have to settle for second best again.
“They started so well, were in control of the match and had opportunities but Canada got better as the match went on.
“The turning point was when they picked up the three (in the ninth end) which could have been a four.”
